Sandy Shore Candle
Make a Sandy Shore Candle with your kids. This new technique using wax crystals is much safer than making traditional candles. Simply pour the crystals into a container, insert a wick, and you're ready to glow!
How to Make a Sandy Shore Candle:
What You'll Need:
- Clear Small to Medium Drinking Glass (heat resistant)
- Sand
- Shells
- Candle Wax Crystals: Mystic Blue, Cornflower Blue, Soft Teal
- Wax-Coated Candle Wick
- Waxed Paper
- Tacky Glue
- Craft Stick
- Scissors

Step One: Cover the work surface with waxed paper. Using the craft stick, spread a layer of glue around the bottom edge of the glass, going 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up the glass. Pour some sand onto the waxed paper and roll the glass in the sand. Let glue dry completely.

Step Two: Decide where you will place the shells around the sandy area of the glass. Attach the shells with glue. You may have to hold a shell in place for a short time while the glue sets.

Step Three: Pour mystic blue crystals in the bottom of the glass until you reach the top of the sand. Tilt the glass and add about 1/2 inch of cornflower blue crystals. Tilt the glass the other way and add about 1/2 inch of soft teal crystals. Keep tilting the glass and alternating all 3 colors to make a wave pattern.

Step Four: Insert the wick into the center of the wax crystals until it reaches the bottom.

Step Five: Cut the wick off 1/2 inch above the surface of the crystals.
