What You'll Need:
- Clam half-shell
- Small cactus
- Craft glue
- Sand
- Small pebbles (no larger than 1/8-inch in diameter)
- Moss
- Potting soil
- Seeds
How to Make a Clamshell Garden:
Cactus Garden
Step 1: Place a tiny variety of cactus inside the clamshell, using a small amount of glue to hold it in place.
Step 2: Fill the shell with a mixture of half sand and half a combination of tiny pebbles and moss. Dampen and place in a sunny spot.
Step 3: Your garden should be watered once a week. Be careful not to over water it.
Seed Garden
Step 1: Sprinkle tiny pebbles along the bottom of the clamshell, followed by a half-inch of potting soil. Spread moss on top.
Step 2: Dampen and sprinkle on some seeds (grass seeds work well, or you can try alfalfa, clover, mustard seed, radish, or rye).
Step 3: Layer more soil over seeds and moss. Water lightly and keep it in a dark place until the seeds sprout, then move it to a sunny spot.
