There’s no need to buy something new when you can use recycled items to create an interesting planter on your own. See more pictures of crafts.

Every spring, as winter melts away, plant buds greet excited gardeners. After morning frosts have ended, nurseries are flooded with customers who are eager to stock up on flats of fresh flowers and tend to their perennial blooms. And often times, gardeners make use of containers called planters to house their potted plants.

But purchasing expensive clay planters or stocking up on heavy duty plastic containers aren't your only options. For those looking to save money and recycle, there are plenty of materials in your home that can be converted for use in your garden. Creating your own planters not only provides you with a hands-on project, but makes use of already produced materials by recycling objects you might otherwise discard.

Recycled Crafts

Many household objects, surprising ones at that, can be converted from useless clutter or trash into unique and creative planters [source: Homeyer]. You can use objects from just about every room in your house to give your garden or green room a lift. Specifically, bathroom fixtures, kitchen containers, left over furniture, and old clothes and shoes can be converted into planters in just a few simple steps. Almost anything, as long as it can support soil and allow for drainage, can be used as a planter [source: Gabriel].

So if you put your old living room set out on the curb last week and no one's taken it yet, reclaim that old end table. Its drawers will come in handy later on in the article.
