According to researchers Northern Arizona University, beetles react to sound. Not exactly groundbreaking, sure, but dig this: "The researchers found that heavy metal rock music and talk radio broadcasts had no effect on the beetles." The sound that makes beetles "berserk" can't be heard by human ears. I'm talking about the sounds of beetles "moving, mating and chewing." These sounds, when amplified through speakers attached to trees, sent the beetles into helter skelter mode.

What should matter to you, dear Planet Green reader? Well, first of all, if you're trying to scare away those cockroaches by using death metal or Rush Limbaugh, fuggedaboutit. However, if you'd be happy to learn that a new earth-friendly alternative to pesticides may have been found, rock on. Help may be on the way.
