If you use a disposable razor to shave, you're probably well aware how fast they become dull and useless--and become landfill fodder. Well, there are a couple of quick tricks you can use to maximize their lifespan. And yes, one of them involves your blue jeans.

Instructables has this simple scheme for keeping your razors sharp for up to six months:

1.After you shave, head for the closet.

2.Pull out a pant leg from one of your pairs of jeans, and hold the end with one hand.

3.Then, stroke the razor down the entire length of the pant leg 10-20 times in one direction.

4.Repeat in the opposite direction.

Voila. A sharper razor. As Instructables points out, "the threads of the jeans run in a diagonal so switching directions allows for an balanced approach to fine tuning the blade's edge." And it takes the fine nicks out of your razor. If you do this every time you shave, that disposable razor will stay sharp and out of the waste basket for months and months.

Another good razor-preserving tip? Dry it off after use. Lifehacker notes that a report found that drying off your razor when you're done shaving can prolong its lifespan by up to 122%. And while you're right there with your jeans in hand, might as well give it a wipe.
