Find an interesting small stone, pick it up, explore it, and put it in your pocket. It's easy and fun to make those special stones into jewelry for yourself or your friends and family. After all, gemstones are just minerals that have been cut into shapes and then polished. Sapphires, for instance, are made from a mineral called corundum.

Crafts stores have all kinds of jewelry fittings. For example, they have pin backs -- just glue one to the back of a special stone, and you have a beautiful pin. They also have glue-on fittings that you can use to make earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings.
