Homemade Hearts
Homemade Hearts are cinnamon hearts which can be ornaments, garlands, or valentine greetings.
What You'll Need:
Ingredients for the dough:
Applesauce
Cinnamon
White glue
Materials:
Rolling pin
Heart-shaped cookie cutter
Nail
Spatula
Cooling rack
String or ribbon
Note-card
Pen
Hole punch (optional)
Mix 1 cup applesauce, 1-1/2 cups cinnamon, and 1/3 cup glue in a bowl. Form the mixture into a ball and chill it in the refrigerator for at least half an hour. (It's okay to leave it in the fridge overnight.)
Next, sprinkle some cinnamon on a cutting board. Roll out the dough until it is about 1/4-inch thick. Cut out heart shapes with your cookie cutter.
To make the hearts into ornaments or valentines, use a nail to make one hole in each heart. To make heart garlands, make two holes in each heart, one on each side. Use a spatula to move the hearts onto a cooling rack. Let them dry for about two days.
To make ornaments: Tie a string or ribbon through each heart.
To make valentines: Attach both a string and a valentine greeting. You can write the greeting on a note-card. Use a hole-punch to make a hole in the Valentine so you can tie it to the heart.
To make garlands: Weave a long piece of ribbon through the hearts to connect them.
