Wild Ginger

Ginger (Costus species) is a flower available all year around but often only on special order. It will last two to four weeks.

The red flowers on top of the two to three and one half-foot stems look like red-hot pokers.

To condition, cut off the ends of the stems and place them in deep, warm water.

Since ginger is very heavy, it should be arranged in a container filled with chicken wire or in a narrow container weighted at the bottom.

Ginger looks best in exotic or tropical arrangements.
